This past Saturday, Dad took the opportunity to tour around Abu Dhabi. They have double decker busses you can ride around town. You purchase a ticket and then can get on and off at various locations. He took most of the day to explore the city and see some of the unique aspects of the city. Here are a few random pictures of things he found interesting.

He said all of the homes have 2 car garages, as well as these umbrella covers for their cars.

He has been asked about the construction materials used in the city, they do not build with wood. Wood is used for doors and furniture, all other building is done with cinder blocks and cement.

This is a fire hydrant. They fold out to reveal a fire hydrant.

This is the door handles that are on the majority of the homes. Very ornate.

Adventure's in the Desert

On New Year's Day, Dad and a few of his co-workers went to the desert to ride camels and bounce around the sand dunes :)

The vehicle they rode in at the sand dunes. In his email, Dad was telling us the drivers of these vehicles have to take around 200 hours of driving classes and if they roll the vehicle they are immediately fired. They strap you in and make sure you are protected and then go flying around the desert sand dunes.

The desert village they started their adventure. It's an all day trip, they get to see and ride camels, have a meal, entertainment...ie belly dancers :) and then they turn out all the lights so you can see all the beautiful stars in the desert. It sounds like it was a fun day and event to attend.

This is a one day old camel that was born the day before they arrived at the desert village.

Dad took an afternoon and went inside the new Mosque in Abu Dhabi.

Here are a few more picture's from Dad's Christmas Day adventures.

While they were at the Camel Festival, they ate lunch at this Oasis Hotel near the Festival site.

Isn't this an incredible picture, I love the water against the desert.

This is the market that was part of the Camel festival. Dad was saying that the reed mats you can see in the picture were all along the marketplace.

Christmas in Abu Dhabi

Dad spent Christmas day at a Camel Festival in the Desert near Abu Dhabi.

Such interesting and beautiful animals.

Dad was telling us that when they entered the arena where the camels were being shown, they were taken to the red carpet area and were seated in the nice recliner seating. So glad they treated our Dad like royalty, because we think he's awesome!

I love seeing all the fun picture's that Dad is sending home to us.. What a fun and interesting way to spend the Christmas holiday.

I don't know if any of you have read, seen or heard about the $11 million dollar Christmas tree (if not, you can do a google search and find several articles) anyway, this tree is in Abu Dhabi at the Palace Hotel.

Dad went and took a few pictures of the Palace Hotel. He's also emailed these to some of you.

If you have an extra Million you need to spend, why not spend it here :) For $1 million dollars, you can spend a week at this very exclusive hotel. And, the only way to get on the property is to have reservations and be a hotel guest.

Grandpa sent us some pictures from Abu Dhabi. He will be sending out emails with these pictures, but I thought I'd also update our blog for those who he didn't have email addresses.

Abu Dhabi, taken from the North end of the Island. The flag you can see is the National Flag for the United Arab Emirates.

This is the Villa where Grandpa is currently living.

This is the current church building where Grandpa goes to church. They are in the process of finalizing plans to build their own building. Dad says there is quite a mix of people and nationalities in the ward. Along with a mix of professions.

I will have to admit that up until a couple of months
ago I honestly hadn't heard of Abu Dhabi!
So when we heard that Dad was going to have the
chance to go there and work I googled it!
In my mind I had pictured camels and rolling hills of sand,
and huts for houses! Boy was I wrong!
I am so excited to see the pictures that dad with
take of the amazing buildings and the beaches!
O and check out that Ferrari Roller Coaster!
That would be fun! But the BIG question is
which camel should I have dad bet on for me?

I know that this will be a great adventure for dad
and I am so excited for him to see another part of
the world! And what a beautiful place Abu Dhabi is!

We had our annual Curtis Family Christmas Party on Saturday December 19th, at Grandpa Curtis' house. We enjoyed a wonderful evening of food, games, stories and of course presents. We've started a new tradition of putting together Frosty the Snowman...last year Aunt Jennie made us this BIG snowman and we each get a turn putting all his parts on him. I've attached pictures of each family in the posts below. We all enjoyed this wonderful Christmas holiday and the opportunity to be together as a family and celebrate our Saviors birth and life.

Curtis Family Summer Get-Together

We had our annual Curtis Family Summer Reunion this past weekend. We camped at Lost Creek Campground near Mirror Lake in the Uintah's. We had a great time visiting, eating, fishing, hiking and playing together. Uncle Todd caught a fish while we were hiking around Mirror Lake.

Decorating our yearly journal notebooks. We have made getting a journal a yearly tradition in the hopes that the kids will get into the habit of journaling about all the wonderful experiences they have throughout the year. This year we decided to let them decorate their own journals. It was so much fun to see the different personalities shine thru!

And the new addition to the group....we were lucky enough to enjoy the presence of this HUGE Bull Moose. He kept his distance very nicely in the meadow, but it was so much fun to watch this guy around camp and the photographers in the family really enjoyed practicing their skills.

We have a wonderful family and I'm so very grateful we have made this a yearly tradition. I'm definitely looking forward to next years activities!

Early Easter for the Curtis Family

Jennie, Todd & family decided this was going to be the best weekend for them to come down for a visit, so we decided to celebrate Easter a little early... I made the kids sit on the front porch and show me their empty baskets.
Then they were off...gather as many eggs as you can. (We try to make sure all the kids get the same number of eggs....Jennie and I can't do math, there was some confusion on how many eggs they could gather up...8, 10, who knows!! at least in the end we figured it out and they all were happy!!)

Kyrsten was such a good cousin, she helped Miriam find all the eggs and only ended up with 1 in her basket (see above comments. . . she did end up with the same as everyone else!!)

We couldn't possibly leave the adults out. Last year I made each family a basket liner with their names on them. Needless to say, the adults made out as well, Thank you Grandpa!! (Grandma taught you well....we had more than enough candy to last the week!!)

Anniversary

On January 30, 1970, our wonderful Mom and Dad were sealed for Eternity in the St. George, Utah Temple...This began a wonderful journey that we have each been blessed to be a part of!! As with most journey's it hasn't been all smiles and sunny days, there were great days, wonderful days, hard days and extremely sad days...but the most important thing was being able to spend these days together. Thank you Mom and Dad for starting our family off on the right foot and down the right path!!
What a wonderful legacy we enjoy as a family. We all miss Mom and especially on days like this, but we know we will be with her again someday and I for one am so very grateful for the blessings of the temple and the wonderful blessings and promises that were made that winter day that Mom & Dad were sealed to each other. Happy Anniversary Mom & Dad, thank you for teaching us and loving us...We Love You!

We celebrated birthday's this past Saturday night. We celebrated the December birthdays (better late than never).. Curtis (1st), Kaili (21st) and Todd (25th), as well as Dallin's upcoming birthday Feb. 5th. Here is our cake...since we have a few family members that cannot/don't like nuts, I did a Swiss Chocolate cake with half chocolate frosting and half coconut pecan. I aim to please :)
Time to open presents...it's nice to have a family room that will pretty much comfortably fit all of us (thanks Mom!!)
